Our Flowering Bulb Bed

Bulb bed sign
Welcome to our Flowering Bulb Bed with bulbs, corms, rhizomes and tubers and one Rising Sun Redbud tree. Our flowering bulb bed is approximately 9 feet by 17 feet. The initial planting included over 55 varieties of bulbs, corms, rhizomes or tubers with over 500 individual plants and the Rising Sun Redbud tree. Over time, the number of varieties has grown to over 60.
One goal of creating a flowering bulb bed was to try and have at least one variety in bloom each month. The bulb bed was established in early 2016 and constructed as a raised bed for multiple reasons. The location on the property included partially sloping ground surface which would not be conducive to containing the bulbs or planting medium in place and part of the ground surface included an old asphalt driveway.
