2018 Master Gardener Training Class 17

February 27, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Topic/s:
Plant Growth and Development
Speaker: Dr. Dave Creech of Stephen F. Austin University

Dr. Creech is going do a program on growing “World Fruits/lesser known food sources” then he will also split the program and cover some of the more valuable (to wildlife/home landscape/earth friendly) native plants that are mostly over looked and or underutilized in the East Texas Region for homeowners. Dr. Creech has been involved with all aspects of plant research not only at SFA but travels extensively across North America on speaking engagements, helping with research projects, setting up various test and trials plantings. Dr. Creech/SFA have trialed cold hardy oranges on campus, they have perfected how to grow the exotic “Weeping Bald Cypress trees”. There is a large collection of different varieties of “Boxwood”, also SFA has been test growing “Clumping Bamboo” or varieties/species of bamboo that will stay in basically the same small plot of land for decades instead of spreading over 10 acres as the Golden and Timber Bamboo species will in a couple of decades. Dr. Creech is going to bring various plants to “Raffle Off” to any of the CBMG and or guests that will be at the Extension office to hear his presentations this coming Tuesday night! We will need a volunteer to man the sign in table to make sure that everyone/couples coming into the building will sign in on a separate line to have a chance at receiving one of these plants!

Light fare food will be served for the interns from 5:30 to 6:00pm
