The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Earth-Kind Environmental Education committee in Smith County will be presenting its first Professional Landscape Maintenance Annual Conference, a landscape maintenance education program on February 23, 2024, from 8:30 am until 12:00 noon at the Tyler Rose Center (420 Rose Park Drive, Tyler, Texas 75702).
During this program participants will learn about using soil fertility to improve weed control, identifying common insect pests found in local landscapes and nursery plants, and information on proper pruning for general classes of trees and shrubs in East Texas.
Speakers include Smith County Ag/Natural Resources County agent Clint Perkins, Dr. Rafia Khan Extension Entomologist Specialist from the Texas A&M Overton Research Center, and Greg Grant, Smith County Extension agent in horticulture. An English / Spanish translator will be available at the program to assist with participant questions to the speakers.
Pre-registration for the program through the Smith County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension office is encouraged, especially when multiple employees from an employer are attending. On-site registration will be provided inside the Tyler Rose Center from 8:00 am until 8:30 am. Program cost is $10 per participant; cash or check only. Checks can be made out to the Smith County Horticulture Fund. The Earth-Kind Environmental Education Committee provides educational programming in Smith County, encouraging Earth-Kind gardening techniques and water conservation.
